APOLLINA'RIAN, adjective [From Apollo.]
The apollinarian games, in Roman antiquity, were celebrated in honor of Apollo; instituted adjective R. 542 after the battle of Cannae. They were merely scenical, with exhibitions of music, dances and various mountebank tricks.
